SIXX:A.M. Focused On Making Of 'Prayers' Albums With New Level Of Intensity And Passion
October 24, 2016Rock 100.5 The KATT's Cameron Buchholtz conducted an interview with SIXX:A.M. — the band featuring MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx alongside guitarist DJ Ashba and vocalist James Michael — during their U.S. tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and SHINEDOWN. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked how the dynamic in SIXX:A.M. has changed now that the bandmembers have dropped some of their other projects in order to focus on touring and recording with the group, James said: "Well, I think that the dynamic changed for the positive. Number one, in the studio, because we were all able to focus so much more on this with just a new level of intensity and a new level of passion, I think. And I believe that both of our new records… ['Vol. 1, Prayers For The Damned'] and ['Vol. 2, Prayers For The Blessed'] are the first two records that we have made in the studio with this new phase of SIXX:A.M. where we're all fully committed to it, and I think that's reflected in the music. Then out on the road, we just love spending time together as friends and as bandmates, and for the better part of the last ten years, we have had very little time to do that. So we're enjoying it not only on a professional level but on a personal level as well."
Added Ashba: "It's the first two albums we went in saying we were a band too. We've never made an album where it's, like, 'We're gonna tour these until the end of time.'"
Stated Sixx: "When we were writing the songs, we were, like, 'This is gonna be fun to play live.' Before, some of the music… a lot of it was, like, 'This is a really cool…' A song like 'Oh My God' off 'This Is Gonna Hurt', we never thought that we would be a live band out touring that. Now we're sitting around going, 'We should break that out one night.' So we have all this music to go back and dive into and explore playing it live."
"Vol. 2, Prayers For The Blessed" will be released on November 18 via Eleven Seven Music. Written and recorded at the same time as "Vol. 1, Prayers For The Damned", released earlier this year, the album acts as a companion piece to the first chapter while simultaneously elevating the band's sound in every area.
SIXX:A.M.'s U.S. arena tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, SHINEDOWN and AS LIONS commenced on October 18 at Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas and includes stops Denver, Las Vegas, Anaheim and Philadelphia.
